Editorial. This week in Bali.

The Roads. It is awesome seeing the many road works and improvements around town right now. I am in Berawa and they are putting new drains and resurfacing the main roads throughout, which when done should make life a lot easier for everyone in the area. It would be awesome to see some new connecting roads put thru somewhere and somehow to ease the traffic congestion, but that seems unlikely. We just hope they don’t make the roads narrower like they did near Canggu Club and most of Jalan Batubelig, for example, where cars have to mount the footpath to pass oncoming traffic. You can only scratch your head and wonder who is designing this stuff.  However, we will be thankful for the drainage at this point. Great idea and I hate to go on about it. Also, they are turning Teuku Umar Barat into a two lane highway, which connects Seminyak to Denpasar. The big question is what happens at the Jail and Jalan Kerobokan intersection at the western end of it. Is there the space and gumption to widen that road? Possibly there will be, eventually and a new road can march on to Canggu right down the middle of that vacant land through there. We can all live in hope. Meanwhile, that area is hell right now with road works along the top reach of Jalan Petitenget being blocked while they try to fix that forever drainage problem in front of Da Maria and Sardine. That periodic road flooding needs to be fixed for sure, but be advised to stay away from that intersection for a few days more. Enter at your peril as they say.

Highlights of last week. We were invited up to the official opening of Noema Resort in Perenenan last weekend and experienced their dining and a special event they initiated with the local banjars of the area, the Merenen Fest, a weekend long and possibly annual kite festival. The kite fest was held on Perenenan Beach and Merenen, the base word of Perenenan, as we learnt on the day, means a place to chill or take it easy. So the festival incorporated this notion of taking it easy, right in line with the Perenenan vibe and we followed suit – chilling out on the beach watching the kites above. The resort is next level cool too with over 150 rooms, two dining outlets and very nice rooftop bar. I think it must be the biggest resort in that part of north Canggu.

Later I was invited over to Miss Fish by the returning Mr Belvedere, Alistair, who is on his way back to Indonesia to take over the helm of the LVMH operation in the country after a stint in Bangkok. With DJ Marvin Waxx banging out some classics and the new House of 10 vodka flowing you couldn’t go wrong for a night out.

Have a good weekend you all!
